Living the Loofa Life

Living the Loofa Life

A little late in the season, but we’re finally getting to processing the loofahs today to get them dried for soap! Look at the size of these babies!! And I have just the best little helpers….

Did you know, the loofah is a plant belonging to the same as zucchinis and cucumbers. Originating from tropical and subtropical regions, the loofah is mainly cultivated in Asia and Africa. The fruit of the loofah, when mature, is dried to obtain the vegetable sponge that we all know. The inner fibers of the fruit transform into a fibrous network that, once dried, becomes a natural sponge ideal for multiple uses. Use them as bath sponges, dish washing, or any general cleaning where you need a little bit more scrubbing!

We will have loofah soaps available early spring! These babies have to get cleaned and dried out before we can use them with our sheep milk soaps!
